Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for all of Connacht and counties Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Kerry and Limerick.

From 10pm on Thursday, southwest winds will reach speeds between 55km/h and 65km/h with gusts of 90km/h to 110km/h. Wind speeds may be higher near coasts later in the night. This warning is set to expire at 9am on Friday.

As the strong winds move north-eastwards, the UK Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Northern Ireland from 3am on Friday until the end of the day.

The spell of very strong winds may cause transport disruption, the Met Office warned.
