Almost 850 new slurry tankers have been bought by farmers through the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme.

In total, over €14.2m has been paid out under the Low-Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme (LESS) under TAMS. The average payment is €13,775, which includes LESS items paid for under the Young Farmer and Organic Capital Investment Schemes.

The aim of LESS is to help farmers purchase new slurry spreading equipment that is better for the environment. The trailing shoe attachment is the most popular option, with almost 550 funded under the scheme. The next most popular option is the dribble bar attachment.

Grant aid is only available for the purchase of a slurry tanker or an umbilical system if it includes one of the following spreaders:

  • Dribble bar (or band spreader).
  • Shallow injection attachment.
  • Trailing shoe (or trailing foot).
  • A slurry tanker must have a spreader fitted and cannot be fitted with a rain gun. Existing tankers can only be retrofitted with a dribble bar spreader under the scheme.

A trade-in is allowed as an eligible claimed cost and the value, full description, make, model, dimensions or quantities of the trade-in item must be detailed on the receipt.

    Maximum investment

The maximum amount of investment eligible for grant aid under the scheme is €40,000 per holding. However, this increases to €60,000 for those in a partnership.

Multiple applications per tranche are allowed.

The minimum investment is €5,000 per application and all claimed costs are exclusive of VAT.
