After weeks of grinding away at work at home, I was glad when the Easter break finally rolled around. The two weeks felt a bit dull though, considering the furthest I went from my house was to the local shop. The best part of the break was when I met a friend when I was out walking. I never thought I’d be so excited to see someone I used to see five days a week and weekends too. I think it’s safe to say most people my age have come up with their own radical sleep schedule, the most common one I’m seeing is 3am to around 12pm. If I need to talk to someone I have a better chance of them being online at 4am than at 11am.

Summer tests are being done online, most on Google classroom

Teachers are doing their best to keep morale up, and I’m finding everyone is getting more and more used to the Zoom calls, some people are even a bit too comfortable and join the calls while still in bed sometimes.

Summer tests are being done online, most on Google classroom. For languages in particular there’s more than one element to the exams, for example I have to record myself saying two verses of an Irish poem. I will need to do a comprehension online, while doing so many different aspects for Irish is a bit of a pain, there is one thing I like about it, we’ve been asked to write our best possible sentences on “mo cheantar” and “mo scoil”. The marks for this are being awarded by the standard of the sentences and considering we have time to research them they will likely be the best sentences ever written about your local area.

Most of my friends and myself are really well versed these days in current affairs

I’ve heard talk about students being asked to wear masks upon our return to school in September and I laughed thinking it had to be a joke. But unfortunately no, it doesn’t seem to be a joke. Most of my friends and myself are really well versed these days in current affairs, I can’t remember another time we were affected so much by a global occurrence. I remember during Brexit a lot of my school friends had little to no knowledge on what would happen after Brexit and if I’m honest, none of us really cared enough to research it because we knew it wouldn’t have a huge bearing on our lives.

The year I do my Leaving Cert will be the first year of the new ag science project and it’s been really difficult at times to gather information

One thing I find particularly worrying about this time spent away from school is the new ag science project. The year I do my Leaving Cert will be the first year of the new ag science project and it’s been really difficult at times to gather information regarding it while at home. We can’t even ask our brothers or sisters for some guidance as their project was completely different, so at times I find myself like a headless chicken, not really sure how to proceed with my investigation.

Overall, I think a good effort is being put in by most students. Some weeks are tougher than others but I find when I’m not going to have work done on time, most teachers are very understanding and that is a great help to me.
