Gerry and Matt for Dunderry Fair Day

Dunderry Fair Day commands a special place in the hearts of many people in Meath. All is now in place for the annual event that takes place on Sunday 12 May.

This is the biggest day of the year in Dunderry with the community rallying in style and extending a warm welcome to all visitors, many who travel miles to share in the celebrations of all that is good in the farming and rural life of the region.

Some years ago the Dunderry Fair Day committee introduced some top names from the country music scene to add to the entertainment on the day. It has been a resounding success and we have Gerry Guthrie and Matt Leavy and many more on stage this Sunday.

It is a great family day out with entertainment for all age groups. The proceeds from the day are in support of local causes and organisations.

Bundoran hosts country nights

You don’t have to go north to Alaska when north to Bundoran will do just fine at the end of May. The Great Northern Hotel is getting ready to host a social dancing and midweek break from the 27-29 May aimed especially at country music enthusiasts.

The three-night promotion gets underway on Monday night with Limelight and Ger Long. Stuart Moyles and John Molloy provide the music on Tuesday. Stuart Moyles is back again for the Wednesday afternoon session while the grand finale on Wednesday 29 May sees Louise Morrissey, Brian Kerrigan and Thomas Maguire and Fhiona Ennis bring the curtains down on the festival.

Special packages are in place and all the details can be had from by calling 087-333 4336.

Songs by the dozen from Shunie Crampsey

Donegal man Shunie Crampsey is no stranger to the Irish country scene. His new album, A Songwriter and His Songs, is his fourth all-original album and features a cross selection of his material.

His songs have been recorded by many of the major names on the Irish circuit over the years. He also penned A Love That’s Lasted Through the Years, the duet featuring Big Tom and Margo, as well as The Pleasure Has Been Mine, recorded by Big Tom in Granard in 2017.

Another popular song, Take Me To Paris, covered in style by Jacqui Sharkey, is included on the new album which features Shunie on vocals on all tracks.

“It gives a great sense of achievement to sit down with a pen and some blank paper and to end up with twelve songs you are proud to have written. The album was recorded at Turnaround Studios, produced by myself and Ryan Turner and I am delighted with the outcome,” says Shunie.

Further details about the album can be had from 086 2172593.
