There are several vital scheme deadline dates falling due in the next few months, starting with the nitrates derogation on 8 April. The EU Commission is giving an allowance to extend the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) by a month, but it is up to each member state to avail of this option.

Ireland has not taken up this option, so it is important for farmers to make arrangements to complete applications in a timely manner. The BPS, Areas of Natural Constraint, transfer of entitlements and young farmers schemes must be applied for by 15 May.
