Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for a number of counties, with river and localised surface flooding predicted.

Up to 50mm of rain is expected to fall over a 24-hour period between midnight Tuesday 23 February and midnight the following day.

Affected counties include Carlow, Clare, Cork, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.

The warning comes into effect shortly after a status yellow wind warning was issued for large part of the country and will further compound poor ground conditions on many farms.
