The EU looks set to formally approve two genetically modified (GM) soya beans, DAS-44406-6 and FG72 x A5547-127, for import and processing, according to Agra Facts.
Ireland voted to approve the GM soya beans at a GM food and feed standing committee last week.
Both soya beans are developed by Dow AgroSciences and are insect-resistant and tolerant to a certain type of herbicide.

A European Food Safety Authority panel said that the GM soya beans do not pose any safety concerns with respect to potential effects on human, animal health and the environment in the context of the scope of its application.
The European Commission looks set to approve the soya beans after a sitting of the appeal committee later this year.
