With the harvest now complete and stubbles ready to be cultivated ahead of planting next season’s crops, Kverneland Group Ireland took the opportunity to host a dealer event showcasing the latest offerings from the Norwegian manufacturer at a demonstration day in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

Machinery demonstrated mainly included a mix of cultivation and seeding equipment to suit both conventional and minimum tillage systems. Here, we take a look at some of the highlights.

e-drill maxi plus

The 3m E-pass Maxi Plus one-pass stood out as one of the major highlights. Following its Agritechnica 2019 launch, this is believed to be one of the first units to work on Irish soil.

The Maxi Plus is based on the seed-only version, while also offering the flexibility of sowing seed, as well as applying fertiliser or a second seed type or slug pellets, etc. The 2,100l hopper can be divided into adjustable ratios of 60:40, 70:30 or 100:0, with two independent metering devices positioned on either side.

All application rates are controlled by two units of the Eldos metering device. Both are Isobus-compatible and electrically driven, allowing both seed and fertiliser rates to be adjusted independently.

The calibration procedure is automatic, meaning no gears need adjusting. Five standard rotors are delivered with each dosing unit to suit both fine and large fertilisers. Rotors can be quickly and easily changed without the need for tools.

Although not specified on the demo machine, section control is an option. The drill can be used on an existing Isobus display thanks to its E-com plug and play compatibility or via its own standalone terminal.

McConnel Combi-Press 3000

Also coupled up with the E-drill maxi plus was the new McConnel 3m Combi-Press 3000. The Combi-Press is available in both 3m and 4m working widths and comes fitted with 700mm rings with a 45° profile. To the front is a row of hydraulically adjustable spring-mounted levelling boards.

The 3m McConnel front mounted Combi-Press 3000.

Enduro 3000 Pro

Ideally suited to minimum tillage, the standard and pro model Enduro stubble cultivators offer a three-row tine configuration across 3m to 5m working widths.

Further dimensions include a 270/285mm tine distance and high under-beam clearance of 870mm for improved mixing and a reduced risk of blockages. A maximum working depth of 35cm is achievable using the Pro or 30cm with the standard Enduro.

Both Enduro models are equipped with Triflex auto-reset tines, which have a release strength of 700kg. Either bolt-on or knock-on shares are available.

Kverneland says its hollow tine technology allows sideways flexion up to 7cm. Each tine offers two working zones, the lower with its slacker 33° angle creating a lifting action similar to that of a subsoiler and then the second zone with a raised angle of 73° for good mixing of soil and residues.

The Enduro and Pro can be equipped with levelling tines or levelling disc systems. All units are spring-or rubber buffer-loaded and adjustable in working depth and angle.

On the Pro, a second parallelogram at the levelling equipment ensures a consistent working angle, even when the depth changes. A choice of rear consolidation rollers is available.

DTX 300

The DTX 300 is the firm’s latest one-pass preparation subsoiler, combining both deep loosing and shallow cultivation in one pass.

The DTX is designed for tractors in the region of 200hp to 360hp. Two models are available, the DTX 300 SB (shearbolt) and DTX 300 AR (auto reset). Both models are equipped with five legs at leg spacings of 60cm.

The DTX can be used for first entry with non-inversion tillage or on ploughed land, loosening down to 40cm. It is also suited to the establishment of oilseed rape directly into stubble as result of its work leaving a fine and consolidated seedbed.

The DTX also offers very good trash clearance. The front legs are staggered and the rear discs allow a full cut and mix from 2cm to 10cm deep.

The DTX combines tines of the LD and Pro-Lift models with the disc sections of the Qualidisc Farmer.

The DTX combines both deep loosening legs and a rear Qualidisc Farmer disc harrow.

u-drill plus 4000 and u-drill 6001

The U-drill Plus 4000 trailed 4m drill, similar to the E-drill Maxi Plus, offers the flexibility of sowing seed as well as applying fertiliser in the one pass, hence the Plus in its model name.

The basis of the U-drill is the combination of a disc harrow (460mm) followed by a large offset packer wheels and CD-coulter bar for accurate seedbed preparation and seed application.

The drill is equipped with a 3,000l hopper capacity and double disc coulters, as well as offset discs for easy penetration of the soil.

The larger U-drill 6001 6m trailed drill was also on display.

The demonstration unit was the non-Plus model, so didn’t offer the flexibility of both grain and seed application.

Depending on requirements, the drill can be specified with either 16.7cm (36) row spacing or 12.5cm (48) row spacing.

Aside from the 4,200l hopper capacity, other features are identical to the folding 4m version.

The u-drill plus 4000 trailed folding drill also offers the ability to apply fertiliser with seed in one pass.

Qualidisc 3m and 5m

Both the 3m mounted and 5m trailed Qualidisc Farmer were on display. Although, both the Farmer and Pro specification are available, the Farmer is aimed for more shallow use, up to 10cm. The respective mounted and trailed models are 15% and 7% lighter than the Pro models.

The Qualidisc Farmer ranges in working width from 2m to 4m in its rigid form while folding and trailed models range from 4m to 6m (7m for Pro)

The Farmer range is equipped with two rows of 520mm dimeter discs (600mm on Pro) mounted with rubber buffers and an inter-row distance of 900mm. The trailed unit can be specified with a hydraulically adjustable clod board for an improved crumbling/ levelling effect. A choice of rear consolidation rollers are available.

The Qualidisc is available in both Farmer and Pro specifications.

Packomat

Also attracting good interest was the Packomat packer mounted to the five furrow ES plough. The Packomat is rigidly mounted via a packer arm which is made from spring steel. Pressure is transferred from the plough to the packer, leaving it possible to apply a downwards pressure of up to 1,250kg for consolidation purposes. According to the manufacturer, the Packomat requires no extra pulling power but instead along with the depth wheel helps balance the plough.

While the plough is reversing at the headland the Packomat follows the same movements automatically. The 5 furrow ES plough demonstrating was paired with the 2.8m Packomat which was fitted with the 60cm (48cm also available) wedged shaped rings at 20cm spacing’s. The optional single front harrow was also fitted, improving the packer’s performance.
