Pig and poultry farms in quality assurance schemes will join Origin Green this spring, with sustainability information included in their audits.

“After Easter of this year, we’ll certainly have the poultry scheme – it’s ready to go,” Michael Moloney, director of Origin Green at Bord Bia, told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“The pig scheme will follow before the summer.”

Feed efficiency will be a key measure of environmental impact in pig and poultry sustainability audits and each farm will receive a report on its carbon footprint.

Bord Bia will also begin to report back to livestock farmers on new sustainability indicators beyond the existing carbon footprinting, such as biodiversity and water.
