Heavy precipitation overnight has caused flooding in the northern half of the country, with reports of road closures on Saturday night on the A1 and M2 in Northern Ireland. Local media also reported road closures in Co Leitrim.
Met Éireann data for Saturday shows 43mm fell on Newport, Co Mayo, in 24 hours. Rainfall was close to 30mm at Knock Airport, Co Mayo, Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, and Markree Castle, Co Sligo.
The latest heavy rain comes as slurry spreading season opened only last week for farmers in Zone C northern counties.
It was followed by overnight snow as temperatures dropped. Farmers shared wintry pictures on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

AA Roadwatch signalled the most difficult road conditions in counties Tipperary (pictured above), Cork and Kerry on Sunday morning, but snow extended across the country as shown in the picture below from the Meath/Cavan border.
Justina and Liam Gavin, who run organic Dexter cattle and free-range pigs in Boyle, Co Roscommon told a similar story through the @IrelandsFarmers twitter account on which they are posting this week.
