The compensation claims of 73 farmers, lodged with the Property Services Regulatory Authority following the liquidation of Castleblayney Mart, are in limbo pending a High Court action.
The Irish Farmers Journal has learned that 78 claims were made to the PRSA’s compensation fund after the mart, owned by EP Nugent Ltd, was liquidated last year.
Two farmers have received €21,746 on the back of compensation claims. The PRSA confirmed that both claims are related to the retention of booking deposits for the purchase of land. Three of the claims were refused by the PRSA.
A spokesperson for the PRSA said: “Currently, the authority is appealing to the High Court on a point of law, a decision by the Property Services Appeal Board, to make a grant from the compensation fund in respect of a claim against EP Nugent Ltd while unlicensed.
“The authority has placed on hold, claims for grants from the compensation fund in respect of EP Nugent Ltd, while unlicensed, until a decision of the High Court is made.”
