Offaly feed merchant J Grennan & Sons has put up a billboard in Kilcormac that is a refreshing change from the campaigns run by vegan activists that make anti-livestock farming claims.
“I don’t want to get into a row with the vegans. We just want to show support for our customers,” John Grennan, managing director of the feed company, told the Irish Farmers Journal.
“We were a bit annoyed at the negativity of the vegan posters.”

The billboard in Kilcormac costs €150/fortnight and John says that Grennans is planning more posters in areas where they have a strong customer base.
He added that the picture shows one of his customers and you “can see that the cows are comfortable around him”.

The campaign has been met with positivity so far, he said.
However, one person did approach a company employee to comment on the “shock collars” on the cows in the picture. He said it was subsequently explained to this person that what he thought were “shock collars” are, in fact, transponders to monitor the health of the cows.
