The farm was sold by GVM Auctioneers with Tom Crosse conducting the sale.
Bidding opened at €350,000. Multiple bids followed from both online bidders and attendees in the room, lifting the price to €565,000.
Following a brief recess and consultation with the vendors, the land was placed on the market. Two further bids of €5,000 each were made.
The sale price equals approximately €18,000/ac. The buyer is a local businessman and the underbidder was a dairy farmer, Tom Cosse said.
€16,660/ac in Laois
Elsewhere, two bidders competed to buy a 39ac non-residential farm at Tolerton, Ballickmoyler, Co Laois in an auction held by Joe Coogan Auctioneers. Bidding opened at €450,000 and moved on to €520,000 at which point the farm was withdrawn.
After an hour of negotiations, the property was sold for a price in the region of €650,000, equal to
€16,660/ac. The buyer was an auctioneer acting for a Co Kilkenny dairy farmer.
Also in Laois, Jordan Auctioneers sold a 35.31ac farm prior to auction. This farm is close to Mountrath and the M7 motorway and has a yard with hayshed and a lean-to. The property includes a bungalow in good condition.
The agents said that the property was sold for above the €405,000 guide price to a local buyer who has farming interests.
