Over 25,000 farms, homes and businesses are without power this Saturday morning as a result of the violent weather conditions brought about by storm Hannah on Friday night.

Those without power are mainly in counties Kerry, Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, an ESB spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“Crews [will be] working to restore all customers over the course of [Saturday],” the spokesperson said.

On Friday afternoon, Met Éireann upgraded its status orange wind warnings for Clare and Kerry to red warnings.

Met Éireann recorded the highest wind speeds throughout the storm at Mace Head, Co Galway, 93km/h and at Sherkin Island, Co Cork, at 91km/h.

Forecast

The weather forecast for the remainder of Saturday shows it will be windy in the morning with outbreaks of heavy rain affecting Ulster for a time.

Elsewhere, a mix of sunny spells and passing blustery showers, with the odd thundery downpour is possible.

During the afternoon the rain in Ulster is forecast to largely clear and the strong northwesterly winds will moderate.

By evening, much of the country will be dry with spells of sunshine.
