Two trailers have been stolen in a series of thefts and break-ins around the Claremorris area in Co Mayo in the last week.

A cattle trailer was stolen from a farm in Ballindine between Monday 4 November and Tuesday 5 November.

It has been described by gardaí in Claremorris as a 4x5, twin-axle Murphy Engineering cattle trailer, with distinctive green rims on the tyres. There is also drainage holes drilled into the mud flaps.

“You would have needed a jeep to move it,” said a spokesperson for gardaí in Claremorris.

Two weeks earlier, a grey twin-axle builder's trailer was taken from private property in the nearby Roundfort area between Wednesday 23 October and Thursday 24 October.

Gardaí in Claremorris are also investigating a rural burglary that occurred on Saturday 9 November at approximately 5.20pm in the Mayfield area.

Warning

Some damage was caused to a window during the break-in and property was taken from the house.

A Garda sergeant from the Claremorris station warned farmers to be vigilant about where they leave their trailers and to make sure they are secured.

"Two trailers in a couple of weeks is quite a bit for this area," he said.

Investigations into the crimes are continuing.
