The Irish Angus Munster branch held its elite autumn sale in Kilmallock over the weekend, attracting a catalogue of 27 animals.

The standard of animals was well up on the year and this was reflected in price, with the average rising by over €100 per head on the previous year. Similar to previous years, the heifer trade dominated proceedings.

Leading the way taking both male and female overall championships, along with the top two prices, was Kerry breeder Denis Twomey of the Tubridmore herd.

Taking the overall championship was his two-year-old in-calf heifer Tubridmore Noble Brazilian. Sired by Netherton Mr Brazilian, the November 2016-born heifer goes back to Oakchurch Dictator and was knocked down at €2,700.

However, Noble Brazilian was beaten to the top price when her pen mate Tubridmore Nicole secured a bid of €3,000. Calving in January, Nicole is the mating of Coneyisland Legend on a Sitz Alliance-bred cow.

Mr Twomey also secured the male championship with Tubridmore Prince John, but this bull went unsold.

Securing the reserve female championship was Michael Sheehan with Luddenmore Ebony.

This April 2017-born heifer is sired by current stock bull Friarstown Prairie Cloud, while the dam is the result of an American embryo from the noted Hoff herd. This five-star heifer sold for €2,300.

Only one bull sold on the night and this was the property of first-time exhibitor Kay McCarthy.

Her September 2017-born bull Lisnafulla Prince is out of Cornamuckla Lord Hardy, while the dam Lemonfield Macy was purchased at the same sale two years previous. Five stars on both traits, Prince was sold for €2,050.
