Two local farmers were outbid for superb 37 acres in Wicklow recently. The farm, which was located at Holdenstown near Baltinglass, was sold under the hammer for an impressive €457,000, or €12,350/ac.

Handling the sale was Micheál Doyle of Micheál Doyle Properties, Tullow, Co Carlow.

Speaking with the auctioneer, it was obvious that there was plenty of local interest in the farm.

The auction room was buzzing with anticipation on the day, as 25 eager locals crammed in to view the action.

Opening at €300,000, Doyle took bids from three interested parties as the property increased swiftly to €430,000.

At this point, the farm was put on the market with two bidders remaining. A few more bids were taken as the local farmer was outbid by an auctioneer acting in trust.

The final price of €457,000 represented a substantial €12,350/ac.

The holding itself was fine arable land.

Laid out in one block and divided into three fields, it is currently presented in grass.

The farm had been in tillage in the past.
