Commenting on the sale, mart manager Eamon O’Kane said that while demand for cattle is solid, buyers have been focusing more on lighter and midweight store heifers and steers.
He added that prices for heavy fleshed cattle have slipped in recent weeks due to a lack of confidence among beef farmers as factory prices start to ease.

Eamon also said there has been an increase in the number of farmers offloading short-keep cattle due to the level of uncertainty within the beef sector at present.
Bullocks sold to a top price of £1,205 for a 645kg Charolais animal, followed by £1,200 paid for a 630kg animal.

Other noted prices saw a 696kg Limousin sell to £1,180, with another Limousin weighing 636kg making £1,170, while a 638kg Salers animal made £1,140.

Store bullocks weighing 500kg to 600kg were a sharper trade, with prices running from £865 to £1,070 for a 592kg Limousin, with several top-quality Charolais types weighing 500kg to 550kg selling to £1,000 on numerous occasions.

Heifers sold to a top price of £1,245 for a 695kg animal, with good continental types making £1,140 to £1,175 for heifers weighing 620kg to 640kg.
