Young Members Association (YMA) is the youth organisation catering for youngsters within the Irish Holstein Friesian Association (IHFA). As part of the IHFA awards held recently in Portlaoise, YMA members were also recognised for their contributions in 2019.

President’s medal

Recipient of the 2019 president’s medal is Louise Sinnott, The Ballagh, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. Nominated by her local Slaney club, Louise is the winner of this prestigious award presented at the discretion of IHFA president Patrick Gaynor.

The three winners of the all-Ireland awards open stockjudging competition with IHFA president Patrick Gaynor: (L-R) Sarah Shannon, Ballinascarthy, Cork (U-18 winner); Kane Boal, Tuam, Galway (18–26 category winner); and Mike Laffan representing John Curtin, Athlacca, Limerick, who was first in the senior category. \ Rodger Jones

The president and CE interviewed the candidates nominated, with performance and achievements within YMA over the previous year taken into consideration.

Louise is a distinguished participant in YMA and has been actively involved from a young age. She continues to participate and helps out within her club alongside her professional career working in the IT sector.

Hall of fame

The recipient of the YMA hall of fame award 2019 is Owen Laffan from the Limerick Clare club.

Growing up on the home farm near Kilfinny, Adare, Owen has been constantly involved with his local club. He served as a dedicated club officer, including a term as club representative on the national YMA committee, during which he had a near-100 % attendance track record.

Photographic competition

Clodagh Helen, Limerick Clare YMA club, is the winner of the photographic competition. This is Clodagh’s second time to win this competition. Clearly, she has a talent for capturing the moment and has a photography skill to get the most from her camera.

Club of the year

The Carlow Kilkenny club is the winner of YMA’s club of the year. This win means back-to-back success for the club, by retaining the title won for the first time last year. The award is based on club participation and achievement in the many YMA events throughout the past year.
