The Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS), the representative body for dairy co-ops and marts, is advising children, social visitors and vulnerable people to stay away from marts.

Marts have already put a 100-person limit in place for upcoming sales and have asked farmers to adhere to HSE protocol.

Restrictions

ICOS president Jerry Long said that the restrictions would be in place until at least 29 March, but that they may be extended after that.

On the back of restrictions, ICOS has also written to marts to consider their options if they have any upcoming AGMs.

"What we are saying is, if it is possible to hold off your AGM, then ICOS strongly recommends that you do so," said Long.
