DAERA statistics show that farmgate milk prices averaged 26.98p/l during April.

The April price was down 0.18p/l on March and 0.44p/l behind the same month last year. For the four-month period from January to April, milk prices in NI averaged 27.38p/l, down from 28.6p/l for the same period in 2018.

Meanwhile, milk production in April 2019 was at record levels for the month, totalling 220m litres, up from 216.49m litres in March, and 6m litres ahead of the same month last year.

Production from January to April totalled 829m litres, an increase of 25m litres on the same period last year.

Elsewhere, the European commission has confirmed that the final stocks of skimmed milk powder have been cleared from stores.

In total, over 380,000t of stocks entered intervention during the period 2015 to 2017, with the final 162t sold this month.
