An application for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) has been made for Scottish Wild Venison. If approved, Scottish Wild Venison can only be associated with meat derived from free-roaming deer species in Scotland, including the Scottish islands.

“Some of Scotland’s most iconic food and drink products already enjoy this level of protection, from Scotch Lamb to Stornoway Black Pudding,” Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing told Scotland’s first venison summit in Battleby this week.

The consultation on the PGI application for “Scottish Wild Venison” under the EU quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs closes on 29 May 2018.
