There has been an 18% rise in liver fluke cases reported in Scottish abattoirs in the second half of 2017, compared to the previous year.

According to Food Standards Scotland (FSS), there were 47,445 cases reported, in comparison to September 2016 to January 2017, which only had 40,297.

Veterinary investigation officer at SAC Heather Stevenson put the spike down to the “much wetter summer” in 2017, in comparison to the previous year.
