As part of its Red Power tour Case IH is doing, the Austrian tractor manufacturer recently had a hugely impressive line up of machines working within one field in Ratoath, Co Meath – 13 tractors and one telehandler all together boasting in excess of 3000hp.

All cultivation equipment on display was provided by Kverneland Ireland, ranging from stubble grubbers to ploughs, in addition to its new e-drill compact. The main aim of the event was to promote the Puma long-wheel base range of tractors.

Case IH had a number of stations set up, all displaying features showing what the brand has to offer with workshops on:

  • Telematics, showcasing advanced farming systems (AFS) and online tractor monitoring capabilities, which can all be controlled online or using the Case IH app.
  • Tractor ballasting, tyre pressure and a dyno, demonstrating the differences between engine boost on and off. This showed the importance of correct tyre pressure for the job and the savings to be made by doing so.
  • Static tractor setup, controlled via an open cab section on the ground. This allowed larger numbers of people to view the headland management system and the setting up of sequences.
  • Other stations gave the farmers/contractors a chance to drive tractors from the Farmall, Maxxum, Puma and Optum ranges, giving them hands-on experience with the different transmission and features available.

This was a first opportunity to drive and experience the new ActiveDrive 8 transmission, offering three ranges of eight powershift gears, meaning 24 forward and 24 reverse gears.

The transmission is available in the 115hp model right up to 145hp (rated) model within the four-cylinder range. Coupled with this was Kverneland’s new e-drill compact, a one-pass. One of the standout features of the new drill is the fact it doesn’t use a metering wheel, but instead uses radar technology.

There were two long-wheel based (LWB) Pumas on show (240 and 185) and one short-wheel based (150).

The flagship Puma offers a rated 240hp, peaking at 270hp and is only available with Case’s CVX transmission. It was coupled with the McConnel Discaerator 3000, which demonstrated Case’s AccuTurn feature, automatically controlling the entire headland turning process with the press of a button.

    Other tractors

Some of the other tractors included:

  • The Puma 185, matched with Kverneland’s CLC Evo 300 grubber.
  • The Puma 150 coupled with the Kverneland Qualidics Pro 3000.
  • Maxxum 115 with the Kverneland Actiroll 630 6.3m roller packer.
  • Farmlift 735 telescopic loader, an impressive loader featuring a four-cylinder 121hp engine and 4x3 powershift transmission.
  • There were two Optum 270s on display, one teamed with a six-furrow Kverneland I-Plough showing its fully automatic features and Isobus capabilities. The other Optum was teamed with a semi-mounted Kverneland PG100 seven-furrow plough. Both tractors, with their CVX transmission, pulled the ploughs with ease.

The event offered a great opportunity for both farmers and contractors to meet the Case sales team and drive the wide range of tractors and farm loaders that were on display.
