The statements will help farmers determine if they need to make changes in order to stay within the nitrates regulations limits.

Under the regulations, farmers are required to ensure nitrogen from manure does not exceed 170kg/ha per year.

Taking action

Those who may be on the way to exceeding nitrogen limits by the end of the year should take action to reduce their nitrate loading by exporting slurry or manure, or renting additional land.

A breach in nitrates regulations will affect a farmer’s Basic Payment Scheme and lead to a percentage reduction in the annual payment.
