Jason Meegan, a first year student on the Agricultural Technology degree course provided by CAFRE and Queen’s University Belfast, has won a £1,000 bursary from the Irish Farmers Journal. He is pictured receiving his award from Peter McCann, NI correspondent with the Irish Farmers Journal.

Jason is from Eskra in Co Tyrone and is a former pupil of St Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley.

To win the award, students were tasked with writing a report on a farm or a farm business they are familiar with. Jason’s winning report featured a local dairy farm where he works part-time.

He hopes to spend the money expanding his pedigree Texel flock.

In total, 21 agriculture and horticulture students at Greenmount were awarded bursaries this year. The other bursary providers included ABP Food Group, AI Services Ltd, Bank of Ireland, Calor, Cogent, Danske Bank, Darren Clarke Golf School, Dunbia, Gibson Trust, HSBC, John Thompson and Sons Ltd, Moy Park, Tyrone Farming Society, Ulster Farmers’ Union, the Ulster Grassland Society, Genus ABS and Bulrush.
