The annual fatstock sale of bullocks took place in Baltinglass Mart on Wednesday, with all stock on offer snapped up by eager buyers.

Despite there being no pre-sale show, mart manager Joe Kinsella described the quality as good if not better than any of the previous fatstock sales hosted over the last 46 years.

Joe said: “This was our 46th fatstock show of bullocks and the quality matched up to anything we had in the past.

Trade was very good, with farmers in most cases getting more than they expected

"Many of the better-quality stock in the area come out at this time of year and this year was no different.

"There was a particularly strong show of Hereford cattle, but the continentals certainly didn’t disappoint either.

"Overall, trade was very good, with farmers in most cases getting more than they expected for the heavier cattle.”
