DEAR SIR: In 30 years’ time the story will be told of the protest that brought about change, of four weeks on factory gates, a united front unlike any before it, the determination of all those involved and how it was achieved without leadership or a formal organisation.

The peaceful protesters’ part in this is now finished. Our future lies in the hands of the beef taskforce, which is currently being formed.

We appeal to Minister Creed and the taskforce chair to ensure the beef sector agreement is implemented not only in writing, but also by actions.

This whole industry is interdependent from producer to processor, and it is vital that we are all aware of this fact.

To those that stood at factory gates, you are now a part of history and should be very proud. A big thank you to the public, businesses and organisations who dropped off food and supported protests. As well as to the media who played a significant part in the protest gaining traction, support and momentum with their coverage and to an Garda Síiochána who proved nothing but fair and patient, keeping everyone safe over the last number of weeks. On behalf of all those who stood at factory gates, we would like to say thank you.
