It will come as no surprise to some that the county with one of the highest number of suckler cows has received the highest overall amount of ANC money to date this year.

Galway topped the leader board, followed by Mayo and then Donegal.

The top five counties are as follows:

  • Galway - €25,531,952.66
  • Mayo - €24,931,023.97
  • Donegal - €20,405,572.49
  • Kerry - €18,796,102.39
  • Cork - €16,745,482.24
  • The information covers 2018 ANC payments to date and was revealed by Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed in response to a parliamentary question from Fine Gael deputy Martin Heydon.

“To date in 2018, a total of €219.2m has been paid to some 91,190 farmers,” Minister Creed said.

In 2019, the scheme has been redesigned and will target higher payments towards areas that experience the highest levels of constraint, according to Minister Creed.
