The Irish Simmental Cattle Society will kick off its autumn sales with its Simmental-cross breeding heifers sale and will finish with the highly anticipated premier sale in Roscommon Mart.

The first sale of the autumn for the Simmental society will be held in Ballymote, Co Sligo, on Saturday 7 October.

The commercial heifer sale has grown considerably in popularity and similar to other years, there is an entry of close to 200 quality heifers to choose from.

With in-calf heifers, maiden heifers and weanling heifers for sale, there will be heifers to suit all farming systems available on the evening.

All of the heifers that will be up for grabs in Ballymote are export-ready and can be exported on sale day.

Next up for Simmental breeders and enthusiasts is their annual evening sale of Simmental crossbred heifers in Gort, which will take place on Wednesday, 11 October.

Again, a mix of in-calf heifers, maiden heifers and weanlings will make up an entry of nearly 250 females.

The society’s final commercial heifer sale will take place in Ballyjamesduff Mart on Wednesday 18 October, with plenty of good-quality females expected to be on offer once again.

At all three of these sales, there will be a special €uroStar catalogue available to potential customers, which will enable buyers to be fully updated on the necessary breeding and evaluation information.

Premier sale

The society’s premier sale will take place in Roscommon Mart on Saturday 28 October.

As in previous years, this sale will allow buyers the opportunity to acquire the very best of Simmental animals on offer.

It is expected that there will be 50 bulls and 70 females on offer at this sale, which will include a draft heifer sale for the renowned Bighill, Dermotstown and Raceview herds.

With a lineup such as this, it is safe to say all roads will lead to Roscommon Mart on Saturday 28 October.
