Weather forecast

The three weather warnings issued yesterday by Met Éireann will remain in place until 9am this morning. As Storm Gertrude geared up to blow its way over Ireland, Met Éireann issued two wind warnings, one orange status, one yellow status, and a yellow weather advisory warning for the entire country.

Gertrude takes the form of a rapidly deepening Atlantic depression that will pass to the north of Scotland during Friday. It will bring a swathe of severe winds and outbreaks of rain across Ireland, Scotland and northern England through Thursday night and this morning.

However, a clearance will quickly develop - brightening up even as of early morning in some parts, with a mix of sunshine and scattered blustery showers following for the rest of the day. While the winds will ease a little, it will remain rather windy for the day, with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds. Temperatures will range between 7°C and 11°C.

Tonight will be cold and blustery with clear spells and scattered heavy showers. Some of the showers will turn to sleet or snow across the north. Lowest temperatures between 0°C and 3°C.
