The deadline for applications under the GLAS scheme is Tuesday (today) at midnight.

Figures released by the Department of Agriculture show that 24,148 farmers have submitted applications. However, a total of 36,663 are saved on the system.

The deadline for the scheme was extended from last Friday to today due to the high volume of farmers hoping to apply. The online system buckled under the strain last Thursday, crashing for three hours in the morning.

GLAS planners have also been feeling the pressure, with many working night shifts in order to get application submitted on time.

The next major deadline is 29 May for the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS), the Beef Data and Genomic Programme (BDGP) and Scottish derogation.
