Farmers must provide evidence of completing a farm safety course in order to qualify for payment under the TAMS II scheme.

Unless a farmer has completed the Green Cert in the past five years, they must have a safety course completed before seeking payment from the Department of Agriculture.

The terms and conditions of the TAMS II scheme state that “in the case of a registered farm partnership or a company, the course must have been completed by the young farmer.

In the case of an application from two eligible young farmers in a registered farm partnership, only one of the applicants needs to have completed the course.

Your claim for payment will not be processed until evidence of completion of the course is provided.”

Teagasc provides the course but private consultants can also run it if they, as course provider, have received training from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and the course being provided is in line with the half-day course developed by the HSA.

It is €30 to take the course directly through Teagasc or €20 through Macra Skillnets.
