Many farmers were forced to house ewes earlier in December due to tight grass supplies. This has left some needing to clean out sheds at an earlier stage which is presenting challenges where storage facilities are not available, land is too wet to travel or the preference is to spread later in the year.
Farmyard manure can be field stored after 31 January as long as it is stored in a compact pile away from any watercourses, wells, etc. It must be spread by the start of the prohibited spreading period of 1 November 2017.
