Tight supplies of finished hoggets have resulted in stronger factory agent demand and higher prices once again.

Mart managers have said that factory lambs have seen yet another increase in prices in the past week. Numbers on offer are tight in some areas, causing agents to compete hard for available hoggets.

At the top of the market, heavy butchers’ hoggets have seen prices edge upwards by another €4 to €5/head on last week’s levels. Prices are ranging mainly from €130/head to €135/head, with some prices of over €138/head being achieved in some sales. This marks yet another weekly price increase.

Tight supplies

Tight supplies and a strong market for lamb has meant that factory agents are still actively competing for all fleshed hoggets.

Those from 45kg to 50kg are selling mainly from €123/head to €128/head, with some prices of up to €132/head being recorded at some sales.

Hoggets from 42kg to 44kg are ranging mainly from €108 to €115/head, with some making over €117/head. This is up by €4 to €5/head on last week.

Store hoggets

Short-keep store hoggets around 40kg are selling mainly from €98 to €104/head, which is slightly higher than last week.

Those from 35kg to 38kg are selling mainly from €90 to €98/head, with some sales recording prices of up to €100/head. This is about the same as last week.

Lighter hoggets from 30kg to 35kg are steady, with prices averaging from €78 to €84/head, with some prices of over €86/head being achieved, up €4 to €5/head on last week.
