Northern Ireland manufacturer SlurryKat recently expanded its Premium Plus product range with a multi-purpose 22t dump trailer which doubles up as a silage trailer.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that this new Silage Dump Trailer (SDT) range was designed and built upon request from New Zealand SlurryKat dealer Brownrigg Agri Gear.

The dump trailer incorporates a half-pipe design built from the ground up with a new chassis and new pendulum bogie system as standard. However, the option of leaf-sprung suspension is also available.

Without the silage kit the trailer serves as a 22t dumper.

The chassis and all the main components are made using S355 high-tensile steel. The trailer body is manufactured using 5mm thick S700 Hardox steel which is tipped using a single 52t multi stage ram.

SlurryKat says that its design is unique in the fact that its half-pipe formation transitions into a full-width square rear which is said to improve the discharge of material. Therefore, it is fitted with a dropping rear door as opposed to the common up-and-over-type rear door seen on most half-pipe trailers.

The dumper is then easily converted into a 34m3 silage trailer by fitment of the one-piece silage kit which includes a hydraulic rear door. Once fitted, the dump trailer’s own door drops flat to the floor for good material flow.

The silage kit has a sloping front panel which increases carrying capacity and aids the blowing of grass over the tractor when opening a field according to the manufacturer.

The trailer is fitted with 710/40 R22.5 tyres, and comes equipped with a hydraulic jack. Trailers are finished with the two-pack paint which has a five-year guarantee.

Pricing for the current SDT model starts at € 27,890 (£24,995) plus VAT. Additional models are said to be in development.
