Leading national awareness programme AgriKids, which plays a key role in promoting farm safety to families across Ireland, has quadrupled its efforts over the past year by reaching 8,000 children across 80 schools through its countrywide roadshow. The initiative has been driven and supported by Zurich Insurance. The programme is now calling on farmers to exercise extra vigilance around children’s safety this summer.

AgriKids, which is led by founder Alma Jordan, marked the momentous milestone during a visit to St. Fiach’s National School in Co Meath this week where the next generation of farmers were taught about the importance of farm safety, along with tips around pursuing successful farming careers.

Extra awareness this summer period

As the school year comes to a close and in the lead-up to the busy summer farming period, AgriKids and Zurich are calling for heightened awareness and extra caution on farms, particularly where young children are around.

Alma Jordan, AgriKids founder, said: “It is my mission to reduce the rate of farm accidents in Ireland and I have been working hard on proactively addressing attitudes to farm safety by engaging and educating our children, empowering them to be our farm safety ambassadors."
