In this week’s machinery section, it is all about combination balers. We undertook a test of six of the most common machines in Ireland on Tullamore Farm in the middle of May.

The lineup made for impressive viewing and the appetite for grass of these machines was impressive. From the heaviest bale to the lightest bale, each machine had it merits. These machines are the mainstay of the baled silage system on this island now and they are the contractors’ and farmers’ preferred way of wrapping up grass.

In the news, we look at an exciting experiment going on in France, where CNH is attempting to run a vegetable farm completely with biomethane produced on-site both to power the tractor on the farm and the vehicles to deliver the produce to supermarkets.
