Tirlán is introducing a weather support package for its family farm milk suppliers to help address the impact of current dry conditions on grass growth and milk production.

The ongoing dry weather in parts of the Tirlán catchment area has reduced grass growth, increasing the need for purchased feed and conserved forage.

The support package has been designed to help farmers maintain herd performance, sustain milk output and protect valuable winter feed reserves.

The package offers immediate support of:

  • €40/t rebate on GAIN dairy feed.
  • €10/t rebate on Irish rolled cereals.
  • €3/t rebate on straights.
  • €20/t rebate on fertiliser purchases.
  • The support applies to qualifying products ordered between 10 July and 5 August and delivered on or before 8 August.

In addition to the financial support package, Tirlán said its advisory teams are working with suppliers to provide advice on grassland management, feeding strategies and fodder planning.

    Terms of support

A number of terms apply to the support:

  • Support applies to eligible orders received between 10 July and 5 August (before 1pm) or until available tonnage is exhausted.
  • Products must be delivered by 8 August.
  • Available to all Tirlán milk suppliers with no cent-per-litre spend requirement.
  • Rebates will be credited to qualifying customers' (end-users/farmers) trading accounts in September 2026.
  • Reasonable usage limits will apply.
  • Pressure

Chief agribusiness officer at Tirlán Ailish Byrne said the recent dry weather has placed significant pressure on many dairy farms, with grass growth slowing and reliance on supplementary feed increasing.

“This package will help farmers respond to those challenges while preserving valuable winter fodder stocks. Our advisory teams are also working directly with suppliers to provide practical guidance on grassland management and nutrition over the coming weeks."

Tirlán chair Ger O’Brien said: "As a farmer-owned co-operative, supporting our members through challenging periods is at the core of what we do. We recognise the pressures many dairy farmers are facing and want to provide meaningful assistance when it is needed most. This package reflects our commitment to standing alongside our suppliers and helping them navigate current conditions with confidence."
