ENFER Group, the Kildare-based diagnostics company, is to help with analysing samples to detect the presence of the virus COVID-19.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We have been tasked by the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) to assist in the COVID-19 pandemic to help carry out a lot of the heavy lifting, so we are going to do our part.”

ENFER came to prominence developing a test for BSE (Mad Cow disease) and more recently BVD testing.

The spokesperson said its coronavirus work will have very little impact on issuing BVD tissue test results to farmers as the peak workload has passed.

However, David Graham, chair of the BVD implementation group, warned that some delays might be expected from some BVD laboratories in the weeks ahead.
