The three IFA election candidates say they will not limit dairy growth. No one expects them to do that but they do need to keep an eye on what direction the dairy sector is going in terms of rising dairy cow numbers and the level of debt that dairy farmers are taking on. With the feel-good factor in dairy someone has to monitor it to ensure it doesn’t end up like the Celtic Tiger.
When you have a chairman of a milk co-op having concerns about the scale of dairy growth over the last few years, that needs to be taken into consideration.
