I had a giggle when I opened up what was supposed to be the new spring release of the Gene Ireland catalogue.
To me, it seemed more like the Gene France catalogue, with six of the seven replacement bulls available originating in France.
You’d think after over a decade of ICBF driving us down the road of replacement index that the “highest index beef bulls in Irish AI” would be coming from Ireland.

Not only that, but after being told the national herd was too terminal, I laughed again to see that only 40% of the terminal Gene Ireland bulls were Irish-bred.
With Tully now only performance-testing Gene Ireland progeny, it seems it won’t be long until we identify the best bulls in France.
