Argentina – beef exports surge in April

Argentinian beef exports for April stood at 23,820t, an 85% increase year on year. China remains the main destination for Argentinian beef, with Russia and Chile the country’s next biggest export markets.

Mexico – milk production set to rise in 2018

Milk production in Mexico is forecast to rise to 12.4m tonnes this year, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Despite the increase, Mexico remains deficient in dairy and will continue to rely on significant imports.

EU – pig exports fall in March

Pork exports from the EU-28 in March stood at just over 190,000t, which is 8% lower than the same month last year. The main reason for the decline was lower volumes exported to China, with 11,000t less shipped.

New Zealand – government to cull 150,000 cows

The New Zealand government has announced a €530m scheme to cull up to 150,000 cattle in an attempt to eradicate the mycoplasma bovis disease. It’s estimated the cull could reduce global milk supplies by 3%.
