There will be no changes to the way marts are operating under the Government’s COVID-19 plan for the month of April.

On Tuesday evening, Government announced an easing of restrictions for other sectors of the economy and around travel.

However, mart sales are to remain online-only for the month.

Marts must still operate a drop-and-go policy for sellers and farmers selling stock should remain in their vehicle while on the mart premises.

Marts must arrange appointment times for buyers to view livestock.

Easing of restrictions

Announcing the easing of restrictions, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin said: “We have lived on very strict Level 5 restrictions since Christmas,” adding it had been difficult, but that “we have saved lives”.

From 12 April, people will be allowed to travel within their own county or 20km from your own county across county boundaries.

Farmers are essential workers and can travel to take care of livestock.

The phased return of construction will begin from 12 April. This will see all residential construction restart as well as early-learning and childcare projects.
