Forest owners and managers are being advised to prepare for likely outbreaks of fire over the next week.

The Department of Agriculture has put an orange fire warning in place, which is in effect from 12pm on Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May.

They’ve advised that fires are most likely to break out in westerly counties, with little to no rain expected over the coming days.

“The need for increased vigilance at this time cannot be overstated,” the Department said.

“Forest owners, farmers, rural dwellers and other countryside users are asked to be extremely vigilant regarding fire activity, to report any suspicious or illegal activity to the gardaí and to report all fires immediately to the Fire and Emergency Services via 112 or 999.”
