With a sale price of £13,000 for the September 2019-born Solpoll 1 True Grit, Co Down pedigree breeders John and William McMordie have set what is understood to be a new breed record for a Hereford calf sold in the UK.

True Grit was sold in a private transaction earlier this autumn, with the animal joining the Clipston herd, run by Rodney and Rose Westaway, Leicestershire.

Sired by Panmure 1 Henry, and out of the homebred dam Solpoll 1 Stella M2, the bull was initially selected by its new owners when the animal was nine months old.

Regarded by the McMordie family as the best bull to be bred in the Solpoll Herd, True Grit has terminal and replacement indices in the top 5% of the breed.
