Payments under the 2020 Beef Finisher Payment (BFP) and year four of the Sheep Welfare Scheme are issuing to farmers this week, Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has confirmed.

A total of €46.6m is set to hit the bank accounts of 27,200 farmers participating in the beef scheme, while €14.7m is on the way to 18,200 farmers participating in the Sheep Welfare Scheme.

Minister McConalogue described the supports as valuable incomes, which will help to mitigate against the economic impact of COVID-19.

An additional year of the Sheep Welfare Scheme has also been confirmed, opening in February 2021.

Meanwhile, €3.6m in GLAS-Plus payments will be made to 3,200 farmers for exceptional environmental output.
