Ireland’s young farmers have helped drive a farm building and infrastructure charge, through the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS II) suite of measures.

To date, almost €28m has been paid out to farmers who applied to the Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme as part of TAMS II. It is the most popular scheme in the suite of measures available. In total, 1,049 young farmers have been paid under the scheme.

The Dairy Equipment Scheme is the next most popular scheme, with €15.6m in expenditure to date going to 1,220 dairy farmers.

Payment claims have been submitted and paid to over 4,428 participants, resulting in value terms €62.5m being paid to date. The Department of Agriculture has said that approvals will continue to issue and payment claims submitted paid on an ongoing basis during 2018.

Meanwhile, the tenth tranche of the TAMS II scheme closed on 8 June 2018. Some 1,829 applications were received and all eligible applications have been approved into the scheme. Approvals are expected to issue shortly under this tranche.
